Yeah perhaps I did over-react but I still don't think they should try enforcing another game company's Terms of Service or End User License Agreement. It's just none of their business.

You broken their rules by linking an emu web, that's a big no-no. Don't go gun-ho on the temp ban, you deserved it. Whats the best way to prevent you from doing the same? by banning you temporarily. If they just edit your post you may not get the message. Now you did.

You answered your own question then. If that statement about copyright law is accurate, then that's why they might close it down once exposed.

The reason they might be so aggressive against other VPN companies might be to monopolise the service for themselves so that if people outside the UK wanted to use a VPN service to watch TV Catchup then only TVCatchup's own VPN service could be guaranteed to work since they won't firewall themselves.

The motive is certainly there.

The article highlighted links between those 2 companies which you've made no attempt to explain. You seem quite passionate about the issue so I assume you'd explain the innocence of the association if you could.

If the "evidence" was so "clear", how come nothing has ever happened since? Why would they close down their "own" VPN??? Why would TVCatchup give a damn about anyone else's VPN service if they have their own?

It wasn't an article, it was a hate posting by a disgruntled VPN operator who had been chucked out of TVCatchup for illegally flogging services to circumvent copyright law ( Section 296 ZB of the Copyrights Designs and Patents Act 1988 - yes I am a lawyer), which states:

A service the purpose of which is to enable or facilitate the circumvention of effective technological measures.

Yep, go figure Sherlock

Apart from what the law may or may not state, human decency should prevail. Part of the pain is not knowing.

I passed the spot twice yesterday sickened by what I saw, and lingered on both occassions trying to piece together what may have happened. Of one thing I am sure... Marvel passed instantly.

If I had one wish for you all it would be that this dreadful event never took place rendering your family whole again.

Beautiful marvellous Marvel has left a huge void that hopefully time will heal... please be strong.

My love and heartfelt sympathies to you all x

Cats are intelligent, loving, giving creatures.

I'm not a dog or a cat person. I have and love both and would never differentiate between them. Your point that the law does is valid and a long held belief of a lad who grew up on a farm with cats and a busy road.

All our love and sympathies on the loss to your family of a beloved part of it.

I don't know if you read the article but the evidence seems clear:

With my interest piqued, I continued to investigate tvcatchup and ukvpn, and it turns out that they're both hosted with netrino.co.uk. Netrino is owned and operated by Chris Wilkens, a well know close associate of TVcatchup. Additionally, it appears that UKVPN is owned and operated by Inviba.com, a company owned by Adam Smith. Guess who was a co-founder of tvcatchup.com.... that's right - the very same Mr Smith!

Not only that but ukvpn.net suddenly closed their doors and announced they'd been sold... like almost immediately. Doesn't look particularly innocent.

UKVPN.net Has Been Sold
All current subscriptions will shortly be refunded whilst we move the service.
An improved service will be launching shortly.
Existing members, please check your email for updates.

I've absolutely no doubt that many VPN providers were disgruntled with TVCatchup's aggressive stance on proxies but if they were indeed providing their own VPN service then it would be hypocritical. Especially when they accused other VPN operators of "illegal" activity by streaming the content abroad.
